My recent post have solicited quite a diverse view of the issue. The reason I asked is because I am confused as to why it is difficult to simply use the available resources. Here are some of the answers:

My follow-up question is “how difficult is it to modify?” Also, we can concentrate on the basics such as English, Math and Science – which, I think, need very little effort to localize.

This I definitely agree with. However, as stated by another educator friend, BenC, without access to resources themselves, the teachers are constrained to use whatever they have.
A comment from David hits the mark when he said that teachers should concentrate on basic school needs! However, isn’t providing better materials also part of what is basic? I mean, resources from the internet can be downloaded and burnt to CDs or printed and distributed to schools with no internet or even computers access.
David also pointed out the teachers’ diaspora overseas – something which should be addressed as well. However, I think, as BenC stated, this all boils down to the system!
What is the system doing? Having an Education Summit! Their bottomline is lack of money! This is true for almost every problem that the government is facing! Oh well.
