iTunes for K-12
Apple’s iTunes U, a section of the iTunes Store that provides free educational resources from various US academic institutions, has added another sub-section aimed towards the K-12 education.
This is a timely addition to the list of available free resources for education specially since we have started to home school our kids. You read that right, we decided to pull out our two kids from the University of the Philippines Integrated School because we were frustrated with how UPIS treated the kids, specially in grades 3-6. We had no problems with the K-2 faculty since the teachers (except for one) there were really concerned about the kids’ education. In Grades 3-6, it is an entirely different story.
I know a lot of friends who graduated from UPIS, former UPIS faculty members as well as parents of UPIS graduates and they are really surprised with the rapidly declining quality of UPIS education. Unfortunately, this is not unique to UPIS because I know two friends who are having problems with the private schools as well. One decided to home school his son, whilst the other is seriously considering the same thing.
If you are parent, are you among those who tend to teach your kids when they get home from school and feel like you are the one teaching your kid more than their teachers in school? Do you think that you are paying higher tuition for a glorified day care?
